What’s New in SharePoint Hybrid

An enterprise is a hybrid of a dancer and a calculator

A hybrid environment helps an enterprise to be connected with its users as per their needs of resources and content. It helps an enterprise with the solution and to get started with cloud computing. With this, one can explore cloud functionality at one’s own pace.

To meet an enterprise’s strategy, boost investment with a cloud by integrating services. Using SharePoint works to an organization’s maximum advantage as it helps to create hybrid functions in SharePoint server and office 365 and achieve enterprise goals.

What is hybrid SharePoint System?

Hybrid SharePoint system uses both “On-Premises and SharePoint Online” (Office 365) which helps to deliver integrated solutions. It is in effect the mix of a private traditional SharePoint system with a publicly hosted cloud.

Benefits of Hybrid System

Cloud technology has been in focus for providing the business advantage for an enterprise. Today, existing technologies of an enterprise will have to include technology developments such as cloud technology, i.e. combined and integrated with internal IT Infrastructure.

The reasons for this is:
• It offers scalability and flexibility
• It is cost effective
• It supports mobile networking
• It supports external collaboration

To make for a good user experience, the cloud can be combined with SharePoint’s hybrid features. It can consolidate search results between SharePoint Server and Office 365, as it consolidates user profiles in Office 365, and offloads the users’ personal storage to the cloud. The hybrid feature is available for both SharePoint server 2013 and SharePoint server 2016.

This differences in the features of Hybrid and Non-Hybrid.

Feature Non- Hybrid Hybrid
OneDrive for Business (File sync and server) In Office 365 OneDrive business is available but  there is no link available from SharePoint Server. Storing business files makes it easier for users to share and collaborate. With Hybrid OneDrive for Business, users are redirected from SharePoint server to OneDrive for Business in Office 365.
Site Following The `Followed sites’ list in Office 365 tracks SharePoint Online sites.  For e.g. If you have deployed `My sites’, a second `followed sites’ list in SharePoint Server tracks and follows SharePoint Server sites.  With hybrid search, it becomes easier to search for the files and documents across SharePoint server and SharePoint Online. It provides you the access to your needs.
Extensible Hybrid App Launcher In Office 365 and in SharePoint  server, users see a different app launcher With the app launcher, admins can create a modern productivity experience for their users.  It helps the user to have a great experience when navigating between on-premises SharePoint Server and Office 365.
Profiles Here you can have separate profiles in SharePoint server and in Office 365 Here your profile exists in both locations, but SharePoint links to users’ profiles which are redirect profiles in Office 365.

How to use hybrid solution?

SharePoint on-premises and SharePoint Online are employed in parallel to meet the needs of enterprises. This could be inconvenient, i.e. with two different systems, two different logins, and separate search functions etc. however, it helps enterprises to get the best out of it.

The latest and new SharePoint provides three options for Hybrid intranet deployment.

1. Federated Search
2. Business Connectivity Services
3. Duet Enterprises online
